The New Normal in Getting Things Done

The Covid19 problem just resulted in what people call, "the new normal". People are discouraged or banned from going out of their houses, and if possible, have any contact with anybody. With the cure and vaccine yet to be discovered, and made commercially viable, people have no choice but to go about their lives from the comfort of their homes.

How can they become productive and make money if they will remain in their houses? The answer is in home-based jobs. Existing industries will have to be configured so that work can be done from home. Employees will have to rely on their phones, computers and team apps to be able to get their acts together and get their companies working.

This is how the outsourcing industry was predicted to look like on 2020 and beyond

Mi Padrone!

Do you know that the great cigar icon Fidel Castro doesn’t smoke anymore? I read in a Time Magazine interview that he gave up smoking as a health measure. Anyway, I continue to enjoy tobacco products like Padron cigars and I think, the number of people who are smokers have not lessened. This is probably due to the increasing population of the entire planet.

Deporting Illegals

Back in the good old U.S. of A, I was told that the government has deported a lot of illegals. Some even told me that the number is more than a million. Whether it is accurate or not, it is that country’s sovereign right to expel illegals and the issue is between Americans alone. In relation to outsourcing, the country should have shaved off a lot of competition for the locals so a lot of them should have benefitted and are now employed. I hope that this will be better for outsourcing who had been under the cross hairs for so long as a huge competitor.

To outsource or not to outsource

Some people just can’t come into grips with the reality that in most instances, outsourcing brings more benefits than costs to all entities. A factory can’t become most efficient in everything that it does. It therefore needs to outsource non critical items to other firms. However, there are vital things that cannot be outsourced. National Defense, for instance, cannot be outsourced by a small and peaceful country to its larger neighbour.

Fresno's Trash Talk

In Fresno, people are about to go out and decide whether the city's trash collection will be outsourced or done in house. The arguments in this heated debate are all too familiar for watchers of the outsourcing industry. Those who are for outsourcing claims the same if not better service at much lower cost saving millions of dollars and the city's finances. Those on the other side, however, claims that the city will not go to dire straits without outsourcing. Well, let the people decide their future.

Mini Reunion

I still remember when I was starting out in this industry. There were only a handful of personalities in the outsourcing sector and it seems like the entire market was out there waiting. Today, things are very different.The industry had matured a lot and I would honestly say that the customers are getting much much ore for their money compared to the early days. I am writing this because I bumped into an old buddy from those days and we had a good time reminiscing the early days of global outsourcing.

Especially this coming week where a 3 day sale will be held in a huge mall, I am sure that the brand will get a lot of exposure. Of course, people loves getting discounts so and participating in a sale is like a 100% surefire way of getting huge sales.

Industry Awards

In the news today, Satyam BPO Ltd was awarded the best information technology enabled Services (ITeS) company award of the IT and ITES Industry Association of AP (ITsAP) for 2013. It's a good thing that industry associations are coming up with various award categories. This things define the things that needs to be given emphasis and the result is an overall improvement of the industry.

Staying Competitive (1)

The Philippine outsourcing industry is largely a low cost factory supplying parts to the american market. It provides half a million jobs in the country and with more people getting jobs, the better the economy becomes.

The thing is, the country's currency is getting stronger by the day and with the new credit upgrade, its value is expected to appreciate. With that, the outsourcing industry is afraid of losing its price competitiveness.

Summer Outing

I had my fraternity ring and class loop done at joyjewelers.com. I will probably have my company achievement rings and pins done in the same place. Nothing beats like finely crafted jewelry and my favorite store does it really well. The price is also a pleasant surprise. Anyway, the summer is approaching and it’s time to think of awards to outstanding employees. I probably should start designing this year’s price.

The Battle Rages On

Outsourcing companies in the Philippines seems to be standing on unstable grounds as the country's currency continues to rise against the US dollar. Now, one of the country's top exports is becoming expensive and that defeats the very purpose of outsourcing. However, the leaders of the industry should have seen this coming several months ago and steps should have been taken to increase outsourcing's value making its dollar price seem very low compared to possible alternative sources in the US domestic market.

Incentives

I wonder how I should motivate my people to work well and attain their performance targets. Perhaps, I should offer prices for monthly achievers and maybe, I should also give big time rewards like special morgan dollars to the top performers of the year. Serious collectors of rare coins pay top dollar for coins designed by George Morgan and I am sure that huge money will be the worth of the rarest Morgan coin.

Yes, privatization is not a sell out

In Queensland, some government employees are complaining about the government's move to outsource some public services. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with such a move. Of course, some government employees might get affected or even lose their jobs.

The thing is, government's run on public money and it is the duty of the public officials to wisely spend every buck that it has. The people are not paying their hard earned money just so some inefficient government employees can keep their jobs.

Every government, including mine should keep that in mind and I commend Queensland's officials for doing the right thing.

Furs Furs Furs!

I saw a couple of ladies in fur coats and matching fur handbags and they look very nice. Of course, such attires wouldn’t look so appropriate in tropical countries but in states with cold climates, such attires are a big hit to women. It’s a good thing that I live in a country with a warm climate. Otherwise, tons of women would have asked me already to buy them those nice attires.

Bad Call Center 3

Further to my first 2 posts regarding this obscure call center in India that victimizes Britons with not so good credit records, I believe that companies that does this things should be hunted down by their host governments in cooperation with the victims' countries. Getting this racketeers off the map is one good way to protect the multi billion dollar outsourcing industry.

Wedding Bands

It used to be gold or silver. Then they had precious stones stud the rings. Now, tungsten wedding bands from JewelryVortex are the fad and everyone’s going gaga over it. Well, not all. Only a big number of people getting married are into it. I found out about this Tungsten thingies since I frequent call centers and there’s a lot of young people working in it. It is but natural that there will be a big number of weddings in a year within the industry and that’s how I got to know about it.

Bad Call Center 2

The bad call center that I wrote about in an earlier post gives outsourcing a bad name. They may not be outsourced as a legitimate loan agent but they can make a lot of consumers wary. People may start ignoring calls coming from people with foreign accents and that will make legitimate call centers perform badly.

People in the industry should be vigilant and report to their bosses anything that can possibly affect the industry in a negative way.

Horse Riding

My friend had equestrian clothing but wouldn’t admit to being one. My friend probably feels that since it is the sport of only a few, not many would be able to identify with the sport so involvement with it is better left unsaid. In the Philippines, there is a popular equestrienne who won gold in the Asian Games. She rides flawlessly that an instructor once pointed her out to students saying; “And that’s how to ride a horse!”
